Tudor and Stuart Portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery

On Friday I went to the ‘Making History: Printed Portraiture in Tudor and Stuart Britain 1580-1640’ at the National Portrait Gallery. It runs from July 7 to 9 December 2007.

The exhibition includes portrait prints of Richard III, Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, Elizabeth I, Thomas Howard (3rd Duke of Norfolk and uncle to Anne Boleyn), William Cecil, Robert Dudley, Francis Drake, Walter Raleigh, Thomas Cranmer, Matthew Parker, William Shakespeare, Mary Queen of Scots and the Gunpowder Plotters.

Lady Jane Grey was not included in this exhibition but the ‘Lady Jane Dudley (nee Grey)’ engraving by Willem and Magdalena de Passe is currently on display in Room 3 next to the ‘Lady Jayne’ portrait.

Please note that the Willem and Magdalena de Passe engraving is no longer on display.

For more information about the exhibition see the National Portrait Gallerywebsite.
